FRANK ADDARIO ON THE LINK BETWEEN SEGREGATION AND SUICIDE IN PRISON

Yet another report has been released linking segregation to suicides of mentally ill inmates in Canadian prisons. The Office of the Correctional Investigator of Canada says it was prompted to review prison suicides between 2011 and 2014 because of “a number of concerning developments that, when considered together, suggest that progress has stalled in [the Correctional Service of Canada’s] efforts to prevent and publicly account for deaths in custody”.
