    James has a national practice representing individuals and organizations facing criminal and quasi-criminal charges across the country. He also regularly acts for professionals in disciplinary proceedings. James works to recover seized property in civil forfeiture applications and assists in complex civil litigation. In addition to his work inside the courtroom, he provides strategic advice to clients to solve problems before they result in litigation. 

     

    Before joining private practice, James clerked for former Chief Justice Beverly McLachlin at the Supreme Court of Canada and judges of the Court of Appeal for Ontario. 

     

    James writes frequently on criminal law topics and his work has been cited by the Supreme Court of Canada and other courts. He is regularly invited to teach and speak at law schools. James also acts as duty counsel for the Pro Bono Inmate Appeal Program.

     

    James was called to the bar in 2015 and is a member of the Criminal Lawyers’ Association.
