ALG’s William Thompson is a member of the Advocates’ Society’s newly-announced Modern Advocacy Task Force. The Task Force will make recommendations on how to combine the best practices adopted by Canadian courts in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic with other measures designed to ensure access to justice.
The Task Force’s goal is to assist in the modernization of the justice system. According to the Advocates’ Society, “the Task Force will offer recommendations designed to ensure that the Canadian legal system provides a sustainable, accessible and transparent system of justice in which litigants and the public have confidence.”
The Task Force will hold a virtual symposium in Fall 2020 to discuss these issues and preliminary recommendations. It will publish a final report in early 2021.
The Task Force is composed of Advocates’ Society members from across Canada and an advisory committee of judges and senior counsel. To find out more about the Task Force, see the Advocates’ Society’s press release here.
William is also a member of the Advocates’ Society’s 10+ Standing Committee, which fosters engagement among mid-career lawyers (with 10-17 years of practice) and promotes access to justice and pro bono initiatives.
