ALG's William Thompson spoke on a panel at Osgoode Professional Development's National Symposium on Mental Disorder and Criminal Justice in 2014. Bill's talk focused on non-mental disorder automatism -- a branch of the common law automatism defence where a defendant's involuntariness was not caused by a disease of the mind. The subject is back in the spotlight this year as a result of the Ontario Court of Appeal's recent decision in R. v. Sullivan, 2020 ONCA 333.
