James is an associate at ALG. Before joining ALG, James clerked for Chief Justice McLachlin at the Supreme Court of Canada and for the judges of the Court of Appeal for Ontario. He also gained experience articling with an international full-service law firm.

James earned his law degree at Dalhousie University. He won numerous class prizes and awards for academic excellence and leadership. While in law school, he gained valuable criminal law experience representing low-income clients through Nova Scotia Legal Aid and clerking for some of the most experienced trial judges at the Nova Scotia Supreme Court.

James now uses his years of experience working with judges to advocate for his clients. He was called to the bar in 2015 and has a trial and appellate practice at ALG, with a particular expertise in sentencing and complex search and seizure litigation.

James is a member of the Criminal Lawyers’ Association and serves as a director of Generator, an arts and theatre incubator in Toronto.
